In A Rush? Here's Our #1 Picks:

Whether you're in a long distance relationship or just want to take advantage of the full range of options offered by an app-controlled toy, the best of the bunch is definitely the Max and the Nora.

They're fantastic Bluetooth enabled sex toys on their own that incorporate features not commonly found on most sex toys of similar design (Max with the air pumps and Nora with the rotating head), but the fact that they can be synced up makes for the most satisfying version of long-distance sex my husband and I have ever shared.

A lot of people don't like to admit it, but the adult industry has been one of the biggest drivers in technology for quite some time now.

According to legend, VHS beat out Betamax back in the day solely because of the porn industry's preference for that format. The rise of DVDs, and even how much money has been put into virtual reality technology in recent years can be strongly tied to adult dollars.

It's simple, sex sells. So it's safe to say that sex toys also love to be on the cutting edge of technology. Its taken a few years for the toys to really get into the realm of being high-end pleasure devices, if the skeezy toys of yesteryear are any indication.

These remote controlled sex toys are under the purview of the scientific field of teledildonics. In layman's terms, that's the science of sex toys that work together over long distances.

Something that's been gaining a lot of traction in recent years would be the advent of Bluetooth enabled sex toys.

Now that everyone has a smartphone in their pocket, why not take advantage?

Remote control wireless sex toys have been swarming the market all thanks to the rise of Bluetooth technology. This is mostly due to everyone already having a potential sex toy remote control sitting in their pocket.

What Are Bluetooth Sex Toys?

The rise of Bluetooth enabled sex toys is directly related to just how ubiquitous and common the smartphone is.

You see, Bluetooth enabled sex toys pair with the controls of a smartphone for an unparalleled level of customization and control that simply wasn't available before. Sure, we've had remote control sex toys before, but they work through their own dedicated remotes and there are issues like just how many buttons/controls the manufacturer would like to include and other problems like connectivity and range.

So plain and simple, any Bluetooth sex toy is a toy that allows you to control the toy through a Bluetooth enabled device like a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.

Our Favorite Bluetooth Sex Toys

We've been around the block enough times to figure out what we personally think are the best Bluetooth sex toys on the market today.

The Nora (By Lovense): My Favorite Rabbit Vibrator

My first app-controlled sex toy was the Nora, and it showed me the full potential of what these toys can offer. On top of it all, Lovense products aren't one trick ponies that try to ride the gimmick of long-distance sex toys, they're more than useable without a smartphone and works great for completely solo sex on top of it all.

The Nora is a rabbit vibrator with about five inches of insertable room and a rotating head to boot. Its completely waterproof, made from entirely body-safe materials, and has made my knees shake more times than I can count. It's definitely one of my favorite remote controlled vibrators.

The app-controlled features are some of the most expansive and worthwhile of any of the toys I've purchased. We're talking intensity, vibration pattern, the works. Where it really comes into its own though is when it's paired with its brother product, the Lovense Max. The sensations from the Max are effectively transferred to the Nora in the way of increased speed of rotation on the head and just how much vibration is delivered through the Nora. In simple terms, if my husband is having rough sex with the Max, he's also having rough sex with me via the Nora.

The Max (By Lovense): Don's Favorite Masturbator

Good sex toys aren't just for women, we're an equal opportunity sex toy review site so it's only fair we touch on the Lovense Max as well.

It's a step up from the traditional male masturbators made popular by Fleshlight. How is this achieved, you may ask? Well, instead of just being a toy that you can use to stroke your manhood with, it also has air pumps that simulate the contractions of a woman's vagina extremely well and makes things all the more realistic. The texture is consistent and really close to Superskin by Fleshlight, and just in case you didn't think that was enough it even vibrates.

I control my husband's Max all the time when he's traveling for work. We set a date and time, sync up our phones, and I tease and tickle Don until he has an explosive climax like no other. I have full control over the air pumps and the strength of the vibration and there's been more than one time where Don has had to text me to slow things down because I was doing a bit too good of a job. Just to be cheeky, I usually agree and then go right back to what I was doing anyway. Not always though.

Because of the cross-connectivity with the Nora, the faster I use the toy the more the air pumps and engaged and the vibrations within the Max go. We can coach each other and have a kind of push and pull tension that's typical of the real thing in a completely remote sexual way.

The Ditto (By We-Vibe): A Bluetooth Enabled Butt Plug

Vagina toys, penis toys, there's one thing we've left out so far that the remote-controlled sex toy industry certainly hasn't, and that's the butt toy.

The We-Vibe Ditto is a butt plug with enabled Bluetooth connectivity that makes for an interesting experience, to say the least. Because both my husband and I do in fact have anuses, we've both given this a shot and we like it because it's shaped very well while still not being uncomfortably large.

I'll put the toy in while doing chores around the house and wait for Don to let his presence be known. There's something really sexy about doing the dishes and having to maintain my balance suddenly because my husband turned on the butt plug I've decided to wear for a few hours. It's characterized by strong, rumbly vibrations that are only beat out by the Hush.

Like the sound of that? Well, be sure that you know how to use anal toys safely and then check out our full review here.

The Onyx 2 (By Kiiroo): A Hands-Free Male Masturbator

The Onyx 2 is a male masturbator with a bit of a different twist on it. While most male masturbators can also be described as strokers since they are designed to be essentially an improvement on the hand for masturbation, the Kiiroo Onyx 2 was designed with the toy being completely stationary in mind.

Insert your manhood and let the different pleasure rings contract and expand much to your delight, it's a sex toy with its own special benefits for that reason alone. Truly, it puts the service in self-service. With an hour of battery life and those ten pleasure rings that make it so the toy doesn't need to be moved around when in use, it's an addition to the realm of teledildonics that is in a category of its own.

Don uses his smartphone to control the toy for an entirely hands-free sexual experience and I like using my phone to control it when I'm laying in bed next to him. Call us hopeless romantics, but him squeezing my hand while we lay in bed as I choose the speed of his sexual rollercoaster is something that is very special to me.

The Onyx 2 is another toy that has a complementary product that can go along with it The Onyx 2 can be paired with a Kiiroo Pearl 2 toy for another interesting kind of long-distance sexual experience. If you want to really replicate sex as best as you can but in a long-distance fashion, then keep reading.

Do you remember those ten rings along the toy? Depending on how far the Pearl is inserted inside the female vagina, certain rings will contract or expand which lets your partner know just exactly what you're up to. There's a bit of a delay based on internet speed, but over long-distances you won't really be able to tell anyways, real-time sex: yes!

Like the sound of that? You can read our Kiiroo Onyx 2 review to learn more about it.

The Pearl 2 (By Kiiroo): A Bluetooth Vibrator

If it weren't for the fact that Onyx and Pearl are supposed to go together and be complementary, I feel that Kiiroo would have dropped the name entirely, because the Pearl 2 is nothing like its predecessor. It looks different, it works different, it is just different in every conceivable way.

All of those differences are for the better, on top of that. It's a gently curved vibrator with more than enough power & different settings to keep anyone busy for a significant amount of time. The Pearl 2 is the most inclusive out of all the teledildonic toys on this list, as you can connect it not only to the male counterpart the Onyx 2 but also to another Pearl 2. Lesbian couples rejoice, Kiiroo has catered to your needs as well.

The Pearl 2 and Onyx 2 combination makes for a fantastic simulation of sex while being completely remote, and the Pearl 2-Pearl 2 combination is apparently extremely fun in a kind of teeter-totter kind of way. I've yet to pair with another Pearl 2 remotely because my husband and I aren't quite sure about the implications of that even though it isn't quite sex, but it isn't not sex either.

The Edge (By Lovense): A Wireless Prostate Massager

I can't tell you how long it took for me to get my husband comfortable with the idea of prostate orgasms. He had long moved past the idea that shoving things up your behind is for the gay community only, but he was still protective of his most guarded hole. Pressuring your partner is wrong, so I worked at it bit by bit and dealt with his apprehensions after telling him just how powerful the prostate orgasm can be and what it can do for a man who wants to know the entirety of his body inside and out.

With an insertable length of 3.13 inches and a 1.41-inch diameter, it is the perfect length for a prostate massager and just shy of when these toys start to become too big. It's his favorite prostate massager and of course, the typical teledildonic Lovense ways are strong when it comes to the Edge.

The biggest draw to the Bluetooth connectivity of the Edge is that you don't need to crane your arm back to play with the settings of the toy while its in use. My husband controls the toy comfortably and completely using his smartphone, and I can get in on the fun too.

Curious about what else this puppy can get up to? You know the drill, check out the full review.

The Verge (By We-Vibe): A Remote Controlled Cock Ring

How lengthy this list is becoming should really drive home the idea about just how developed and well thought out the remote controlled sex toy industry has become. Far from a meaningless gimmick, Bluetooth enabled sex toys are in a league of their own.

Cock rings have finally gotten the app-controlled flair with the Verge by We-Vibe. Unlike most cock rings that are designed to have the vibrating portion at the top of the toy to stimulate the clitoris & top of the penis, the Verge has the vibrating portion on the bottom to spread vibrations throughout the perineum of the giver and receiver.

While you can definitely just use the buttons on the side of the toy, Don hands the smartphone over to me and I get to be in complete control over the vibrations on the toy while we are intimate together. The perineum is extremely sensitive and often underserved part of the human anatomy. The vibrations go deep into both of our issues and activate a lot of sensitive nerve endings that typically never get their fair share of love. For that lone, we give our thanks to We-Vibe.

The Domi (By Lovense): A Bluetooth Wand Vibrator

Our preference for Lovense toys is really starting to show, but what can we say? They make some of our favorite toys!

It's fair to say that both myself and my husband both really like Lovense's line of sex toys. For a few reasons, mainly the quality of their toys and also the user-friendliness of their app makes their toys very appealing. Since we are a ong distance couple for most of the year, their preference for catering to our needs has us going back for more regularly.

The Domi is no different than any other toy made by Lovense. This product is a Bluetooth enabled wand vibrator which I've grown to be quite fond of myself. The simple-to-use Lovense app makes controlling this toy a breeze. Controlling the toys exact speed and vibration is just a few screen taps away. This is something you can let your partner control for you (but only if that's something you trust them with). Like all Lovense toys, it's also perfectly functional and an A+ toy on its own completely separate from all of the app-controlled and long-distance extras.

I've personally thrown away my Hitachi wand for good after using the Domi, the two motors inside rotate and the silicone exterior stays stationary, making it a lot less grindstone like than what the Hitachi offers, and it's just more powerful. A perfect upgrade on a timeless classic.

It's my go-to wand vibrator whenever penetrative stimulation isn't what I'm going for.

Why Choose An App-Controlled Sex Toy?

Close-Range Fun

The simplest and most straightforward use for a Bluetooth enabled toy is that you're able to control the toy when you're in the same room. Instead of having to fumble around with hard to reach controls, you can adjust the intensity and vibration patterns directly with your off hand.

The range of sensations you can make are much higher with what Bluetooth can offer. For instance, instead of being stuck with just low-medium-high intensity spectrum, you can fine-tune the intensity to exactly what works for you and not a pinch higher or lower. Not only that, you can sync up the vibration patterns to music or even make a custom rumbly pattern that no manufacturer includes out of the box.

Besides you being in control, you could hand over control of your phone and therefore your sex toy to your partner in the same room as you. The look of excitement on my husband's face when he plays with the sensitivity on my favorite toys is absolutely priceless, and he says it's much more engaging than Flappy Bird ever was.

Long-Range Titillation

Where most remote controlled toys have a drawback is that you're limited by how close the remote control is to the toy itself. When a Bluetooth wireless sex toy is used, you can use the Internet to bridge the gap between the toy and the person who's in control.

As long as the toy is connected to a local Bluetooth enabled device that is connected to the internet, any other Bluetooth enabled device that is also connected to the internet can be given control of the toy if the owner so chooses. This has opened up a whole new level of long-distance sexual encounters that weren't previously available. Some kinky individuals go on websites to find strangers who want to control their masturbation experience in a way that's kind of like a one night stand but also very much isn't. It adds a level of excitement and mystery to masturbation that was previously not there.

I love how these kinds of toys have made long-distance relationships much simpler. My husband Don travels all the time for work and s much as we both love each other, we're two people who absolutely love sexual gratification. Since we're neither swingers nor cheaters, giving each other control of our sex toys helps bring intimacy into our lives when we need it most.

No matter where my husband and I are in the world, we're just an internet connection away from maintaining our sexual connection.

Conclusion

Now you should have a much more complete understanding of what is out there, and hopefully, at least one of these products appeal to you and can find their rightful place in your war chest or bedside drawer.

Personally, I love the avenues for long-distance sex that these toys have opened up and it's just a matter of time until we have holodeck style sexual encounters now that we know what's possible with the power of smartphones and the internet. Even without a committed partner, there are communities popping up all over the internet allowing people to connect sexually with these toys.

On a more simple note, it's just great that toys that used to be hard to adjust in use like cock rings or butt plugs can finally be controlled in a much more comfortable way. The future is now, kiddos.

I agree the Max and the Nora work really well together

I totally agree that good sex toys can be great at increasing intimacy between two people.

A couple years ago, I finally managed to convince my husband to start experimenting with sex toys. I’ve owned my own toys for some time and it was difficult to convince him he’s not any less of a man because we want to use toys. There’s limits to the human body, plain and simple.

When we pair the Max and Nora together it makes those lonely nights much more bearable 🙂

Hello and thank you for this quite entertaining AND informative review that make me think my partner and I living far apart (for now) didn’t just rush into buying a gadget that may or may not help a little to playfully with the distance between us.

As we went for the kiiroo (onyx2 and pearl2) and as I really like your style and joyful tone… I was wondering if there was a chance that you might give the kiroo a try with your husband (my partner and I are still waiting for our toys to arrive), both to let us know what you think and even out of curiosity how Lovesense’s and Kiiroo compare.

In any case, thanks again for trying those seemingly groundbreaking toys out for everybody. Keep up the enthusiasm 😉
