Flavored lube can increase satisfaction for both for the person giving and receiving oral. The smell and taste associated with giving oral head is one of the top reasons why the women I talk to can't fully get into oral sex, and flavored lubes are a great way to make that a problem of the past.

For some reason, many couples are really put off by the addition of lube for oral sex. Why, you ask? Because most lube tastes absolutely awful. Like, industrial-run off terrible.

Because of this, we've decided to take a look at some of the most popular edible and flavored lubricants to figure out if any of them are tasty enough to use as a spread on their own or if they're just trying to mask the un-maskable.

The truth is that not all edible lubes taste like junk, in fact I've tried a number of flavored lubricants that taste great.

These lubes are all non-toxic and specifically meant to be consumed, anything that has risky ingredients has not been included in this list for the benefit of our readers.

So without further ado, let's get into my favorite edible personal lubricants.

Classic Erotica Crazy Girl (Best Lube For Blowjobs)

This lube is my personal favorite lube for giving head for two main reasons:

  1. It tastes fantastic.
  2. It has a coating effect that makes my gag reflex less prominent

Crazy Girl cotton candy flavored lube is my go-to oral lube whenever I want to go down on my husband and need some numbing assistance for deep throating.

The taste on this guy is absolutely spectacular. I get a lot more enjoyment out of my oral sex time with my husband when I'm going down on him when there's a plethora of flavors available.

This lube doesn't contain glucose and the smell is pungent enough to mask any unwanted odors without being too synthetic. .If you're apprehensive about giving blowjobs because of any tastes or odors down there, this one is perfect for you. It's the difference between tasting something similar to your favorite flavor of lollipop vs tasting, well, you know.

Classic Erotica Max Head (My Husbands Favorite)

This is a perfect lube if you don't want any flavorings that are too overpowering or out there. The flavor is simple and sweet, just like your run of the mill sugary candy.

It's advertised as a throat numbing spray and I don't know how much of that is placebo and how much is real. I wouldn't necessarily call the sensation numbing but I do find it easier to perform oral after applying it, and my husband seemed to last longer on top of that. It definitely decreased the sensitivity in my mouth and on my husband's genitals without any tingly feelings typical of numbness, though.

The amateur can quickly become a professional by applying a bit of this lube and going to town. It gets slightly sticky afterwards, so make sure to wash up once everything is said and done.

LubeLife Water-Based Watermelon (Most Popular)

Another water based lube, this lube is at a great consistency. Not too watery and it isn't sticky either, it is velvety smooth.

This one was a standout for me in the flavor department, we tend to go through this one the quickest because I'm not above adding a dollop or two extra just for the flavor. I personally think it tastes pretty darn close to watermelon Kool-Aid or watermelon candies. It practically tastes exactly like candy, yet is somehow sugar-free.

It's the most balanced out of all of the lube, there's no chemical taste to speak of and it is neither too subtle nor too heavy in delivery. It's really a delight and Don likes how voracious it makes me, the proof is in the moaning, for sure. This one is the winner in the flavor department and it isn't a hassle to use on top of that.

I highly recommend it if you're into fruity flavors, especially if you like watermelon flavored candy.

Doc Johnson GoodHead

They say variety is the spice of life, so I decided to go with the Doc Johnson pack with five flavors: cherry, mint, cinnamon, passion fruit, and strawberry.

These have a slight numbing action which might be worthwhile if you have a really sensitive gag reflex and want to give your partner a little more throat than what they're used to.

Using too much makes for feeling like you're at the dentist, so it is another flavored lube to use sparingly. It's also water based and quite sticky like Passion Licks lube, with a very similar consistency. It's also gluten-free!

The flavors are much more subtle than the other lubes I've tried, and I only taste the flavor and not any of the other ingredients. I set out all of these on my table and had a tasting. This is what I noticed:

  • Strawberry is like the flavor after eating a red lollipop or Popsicle. Sugary and delightful.
  • Mint is like when a piece of wintergreen gum is starting to lose it's flavor inside your mouth.
  • Passion Fruit is very comparable to a bubble gum flavor, just with a little "something else" to it.
  • Cherry is like a red lozenge. Kind of cough syrup-y, kind of sugary.
  • Cinnamon is like when a piece of cinnamon gum that's starting to lose it's flavor.

Even bigger dollops of the lube weren't overpowering, so this is a good one to pick if you tend to apply lube liberally. The flavors are subtle and aren't front and center, and the light numbing action is probably more due to the flavors themselves than a numbing agent added to the lube.

Aloe Cadabra Organic Pina Colada

I personally love a Pina Colada in the summer heat, and I love organic products, so this one was a shoe-in for my taste test.

This lube is water based and also pH neutral, making it perfect for those prone to UTIs or who just want to maintain everything down there. This lube is completely organic, so there's no glycerin, parabens, glucose, or propylene glycol. Simply put, this one is the most gentle on the body and has the least amount of questionable ingredients.

Interestingly enough, applying this lube has a slight cooling sensation, not too sure why, but it feels pretty nice. It is long lasting and I'd describe the texture and viscosity as silky, like a heavier kind of whipping cream. There's little to no stickiness and there's only smoothness once everything is all said and done.

The flavor was pretty subtle but also very enjoyable. There isn't the same alcoholic punch as a real Pina Colada, but the flavors are pretty spot on. Of course, since its a pseudo-flavor it isn't true to life, but it's a pretty good attempt.

If you're very prone to yeast infections but also want a lubricant that passes the taste test and has the green-light for every kind of sex act, this is your winner.

Passion Licks Strawberry

First up is a classic flavor: strawberry. I'll be going through the entire gustatory experience I had with Passion Licks, so rest easy.

This lube comes in 8 different flavors (my favorite is strawberry obviously). It's water based which makes it compatible with condoms, sex toys of any material, and makes it particularly non-staining and easy to remove once everything is said and done. You can consult our lube guide if you need more information as to lube itself.

Anyways, this lube comes out relatively viscous and isn't particularly running for a water-based lube. Despite the label, it is definitely sticky and will require a bit of cleanup afterwards. It smells good like a strawberry candle. The taste is very powerful and I'd say that less is more when it comes to this lube. Since it is very viscous and long-lasting, this isn't too much of a downside. The flavor is definitely synthetic, it doesn't taste like real strawberries but more like the kind of strawberry you'd expect from a Twizzler or any red strawberry candy. If you use too much it'll have this kind of cough syrup like intensity to it, but in amounts no bigger than a quarter it is a very passable lube.

The consistency isn't gross, it's kind of like jam and there's no weird industrial aftertaste.

Wicked Care Salted Caramel

After being kind of let down by my last choice in sweet lubricant, I chose to go with salty and see where that got me. For that, I whipped out the Salted Caramel flavored lube from Wicked Care.

It has probably the most respectable packaging out of all of the lubes on this list and has a handy pump applicator which got it points. It's vegan, free of parabens, and water based. Sugar free on top of that. The benefit of sugar free lubricants is that you aren't asking for a urinary tract infection by giving bacteria lots of glucose to feed on.

This one tastes absolutely sinful. Like, I'd spread it on bread level goodness. When in use there's no weird extra sensations like numbing, cooling, or heating, so it's perfect as a straight up lubricant on top of the flavor. Absolutely no chemical aftertaste or weird synthetic flavoring and it's just like the caramel filling of my favorite chocolates. The stick factor is non-existent and it washes away effortlessly. It isn't too sweet or overpowering on top of that, I really hit the jackpot on this one.

I even revisited it another day to see if I was just praising it because of being somewhat let down by the donut flavored lube, but my opinion still stands even after sleeping on it. It feels great and tastes even better. I break it out whenever I need some oral lovin' and want to make sure Don really gets into it. Probably my favorite one on this list, to be honest.

Conclusion

So there you have it, Don and I tested the most popular edible lubes out there so you don't have to. They all vary slightly in consistency and stickiness, so read through my description carefully when deciding what you think will work best for you. Some of them were just slightly flavored while others had the flavor front and center, there is a lot of variance here and I'm really happy for it, since one of the complaints I get most as a sex therapist is a reluctance from one partner to give oral sex.

Hopefully this can help bridge the gap and bring some couples closer together, I know it did for Don and I.
