A sex toy can be a great way for a woman to let off some steam and connect with her sexuality. However, human beings are notoriously impatient and want some instant gratification. When the urge hits you to get some sexual relief late at night when all of the sex toy shops are closed and you know it'll take a few days for anything you buy to get shipped to you, what's a girl to do?
A little industrious spirit goes a long way and DIY doesn't only have to apply to home renovations or making your own soaps. There's tons of different options as far as re-purposing items to better serve you, and dildos are just one of the many things you can cobble together with a few household items. In essence, all you need is something phallic in nature and safe enough to put inside your body.
Making your own dildo has its benefits, after all. You can service yourself in a pinch as well as dispose of the toy as soon as you're done so you don't have to have it laying around in your house for weeks to come. Maybe you want to see if dildos are even your kind of thing and don't want to shell out the money for a Rompin' Ryan Fuckstick, and that's understandable.
I personally created a custom mold of my husbands penis, which in my opinion is the best way to create your own DIY dildo. It's a silicone molding kit that allows you to cast any penis into a silicone dildo with the option of including a vibrator.

Shortly, I'll be going over all of your options for at home dildos, but there are some things to keep in mind. Putting a condom over anything you've made is rule #1, as you don't know how much bacteria is on whatever you've chosen or if it'll upset the delicate pH balance of your vagina. The toy should also be safe to use with no risk of it breaking inside of you and then you're panicking because half of a carrot is lodged up your hoohaw. And of course, don't use anything that might cut you.
Now, let's get to the meat of the article:
The Classic Methods:
Women have been resourceful as far as penis stand-ins for some time now, and there's a couple that always come up in these types of lists as well as in popular culture. They all have some commonalities between them, they're easy to find, inexpensive, safe to use, and as functional as can be. In fact, I'll bet you've probably heard about some of these already.
Banana
As silly as the image might look...
A banana works well because they are curved well enough to be useful for G-spot stimulation and there's little risk of it breaking inside of you. Bananas that have yet to ripen are best as they are much firmer than older bananas. The longevity of the banana is the main concern here, as they tend to go soft really quickly, but they aren't completely useless and if you're lucky you can squeeze out an orgasm or two before it has to go in the trash.
Wash the banana thoroughly before deciding to go to town and then put a condom on top if it. If at all possible, file down the end with something to make the bottom less uncomfortable during use. I don't recommend opening the banana like in the picture, though.
Cucumber
This is probably the #1 choice for DIY dildos worldwide. Cucumbers are extremely cheap, vary in size immensely, and are the perfect mix of firmness and squishiness to really make for a good time.
They also make for the simplest process. Just take it out, give it a quick wash, apply condom and you're good to go. There's practically no concerns to worry about and it does the job splendidly with more or less no limit as to how much use you can get out of it in a single session. Some lube might be required on top of the condom, but besides that you'll do fantastically.
Hairbrush
Moving away from the produce section of your grocery store, here's something you'll probably have several of laying around already: a hairbrush. They're made of sturdy plastic and the handle is what you'll be inserting inside of yourself, using the actual brush portion as a handle. This also makes the hairbrush one of the most comfortable to use options.
Give it a quick wash before and after and make sure to use a condom while you're using it. Fresher brushes are a better choice because one full of hair might be a little off-putting, but the benefits are very easily seen. They are the perfect shape, hardness, and don't conk out at any point. In fact, there are dildos that are more or less hairbrush handles on the market already, so its a great stand-in.
Advanced Choices:
The previous options were all extremely simplistic, simply some phallic objects that cost practically nothing and do a bare bones job. Here are some of the expert level choices if you want to really make things worthwhile.
Electric Toothbrush
This option is great if you want to throw in some clitoral stimulation instead of being relegated to solely penetrative action. You can insert it as well but I personally find it is much more well suited as a stand in for a wand vibrator as opposed to a traditional dildo.
Give it a really good rinse and as usual put a condom over it before use. The toothbrush really should be used with a condom, you know darn well where you put it all the time. Be extremely gentle, as this is really an off-label use for an electric toothbrush. Give your clit some TLC and make sure you have some extra batteries laying around!
Shower Head
This one is great if you're getting really tired of having to put condoms on household items. If you have a really good shower head and good water pressure, this is one that might make extend all of your showers by 10 minutes a pop after you've gotten the technique right. It's a gentle yet powerfully stimulating way to get yourself off, kind of like a water-based vibrator. Place the head right up against your clit and figure out which water setting works best for you. It is another great homemade toy with some clitoral focus.
The best part? Cleanup is built in to the whole experience.
Electric Razor
You might be a little surprised by this one but it makes much more sense when I tell you that you're supposed to take out the razor head and then use that end as the handle. From there, turn on the razor and you have yourself a makeshift vibrator. Move it up and down along your clit and if you're lucky enough it might even be the kind that'll be able to penetrate inside a few inches.
As per usual, giving it a wash beforehand is essential to avoiding any bad outcomes.
The Clone A Willy (My #1 Recommendation)
This option is a bit different in that it isn't just grabbing a non-dildo item and using it like one. This one is quite literally how to make your own dildo.
The Clone A Willy kit allows you to make a perfect silicone replica of just about any phallic object, including that of your partner or anyone you know who's willing to cast their penis for your later pleasure.
This product is absolutely awesome in my opinion. If you've ever wanted to cast your partners penis to make your own dildo, you'll love this product.
I can't tell you how excited my husband was when I told him I wanted to cast his penis using the Clone-a-Willy kit. It was pretty inexpensive and we had a great time making it. We've also had quite a bit of fun using it as well!
When you buy the kit, you're given a plastic tube, molding powder, 2 part silicone mix (silicone + activator), a thermometer, and a stir stick. The entire process takes about a day and a half.
How To Make It
Firstly, you measure the length of whatever you're going to use and then make a notch half an inch above on the plastic tube and then cut off the excess.
From there, you add the molding powder to about 1 3/4 cups of water and then pour it into the tube. This next part is difficult if you're using a real penis. You'll have to immediately insert the penis inside the tube and stay erect for approximately two minutes while the toy is being cast. So, make sure to have some kind of plan in mind if you're going to go this route. If you just want a perfect silicone replica of what seems like the perfect cucumber, that works too.
Let the casted mold sit for about six hours, add the silicone and the activator together, pour into the mold. The kit even comes with a vibrator of it's own to make it all the more worthwhile. Then let it sit for 24 hours. Voila, you've made your own dildo.
We've actually written a full review that breaks down our experience using this product. Long story short, Don cloned his willy.

Parting Words
While none of these options will do as good of a job as a purpose built vibrator or dildo, they work great in a pinch and can help you out while you count down the days for your real dildo to come in the mail. The benefits of real dildos are of course they are shaped with the vagina in mind and the hygiene concerns are dealt with as part of the design.
If after reading this, you'd like to learn how to choose a dildo instead of making one, I've written a guide to picking a dildo that should serve you nicely.
Still, all of these options have been used by thousands of women whether they'd like to admit it or not. If it vibrates or is vaguely penis shaped, you can bet your bottom dollar someone has given it a shot.
When it comes to using dildos, it's really not about the dildo itself but more about how you use it.
Hopefully one of these items can help you out if you're looking for a quick release. Enjoy yourself!
